The Trial Pack

It's been very quiet on here for a while, with Christmas and New Year intervening for one thing, but also because the prep is pretty much done, all the purchases have been purchased, delivered, and put away in the Expedition Storage Unit. But with only ten days to go until we set sail (*gulp*) it was time for a Trial Pack.

No, not a pack of something you want to try out. A trial to ensure we can fit everything we're taking in a sensible number of suitcases. The result: we can.

Storage space in our cabin will be "at a premium". A posh way of saying there isn't any. So the plan is to live out of suitcases for 16 days, since there is space to slide them under the beds. Allegedly. To avoid rummaging around too much, Nikki applied her logical brain, and packed all the outdoor gear in the purple suitcase; all the on-board gear in the green suitcase; and all the unwieldy stuff - boots, shoes, etc - in the new chequered bag (which is actually a laundry bag but doubles up very nicely for all those things that won't fit anywhere else).

The small cubical grey-on-grey bag is the sailing equivalent of a "carry-on" and holds all those things we really don't want to be separated from. Toiletries, electronics, and emergency pants. And the cushions are there to discourage our cat Hobo from climbing on anything. His separation anxiety has already reached fever pitch with the appearance of the suitcases, and he tries to manage this by sleeping on them. Which makes them furry.
